Known as the Common Loon, this is the state bird of Minnesota. Called Loons because of their clumsy walk on land, they attract onlookers for their unusual red eyes and black and white plumage. Found commonly in the Northern Wilderness they wail in chorus at night and hoot when they want to communicate with family members.
