My Art Journey

The pandemic has tested us in many ways- our patience, perseverance, resilience, and the ability to adapt to a new way of life. I have been thinking for a while about starting this blog but didn't really know what I wanted to say. What would I say that no one else has said and why would anyone be interested in it? I decided to say it anyway...  my journey is my own, I have sculpted it the way I want to and there is a story to tell.

Art has always been part of my life. It was a way for me to immerse myself in that dreamy colorful world as a kid. My mom introduced me to traditional Indian designs that we would both make on the floor on auspicious days during festivals. And many a time that translated into designs with colors on paper. Seeing my interest in art, mom had an art teacher give me lessons at home, to hone my skills. And so started my art journey in Middle school. I became quite the art student and the kid in school who was assigned with creating Charts for the classroom.

I had other plans during college and didn't think an art education would help me in any way, so went the traditional route and got a degree in Sociology and thereafter an MBA. Art took a back seat as i immersed myself in getting a relevant degree and a corporate job in Human Resources. As interesting as that was, I always felt something was missing.

It was not until a few years ago when I quit my job that I decided to start painting again. My second Act.  Even though I knew the basics, I felt things had changed by leaps and bounds and so I started teaching myself the correct ways to use different mediums and art forms from watching youtube videos. I started attending classes at the local Art Center and armed myself with tools and techniques of painting in Oils, Acrylic, and Watercolors. It’s as if a floodgate had opened, and all this creativity I had pent up all these years burst open.

I have been painting on and off the last few years- exhibiting my work at the Art center I took classes at, the local library, and coffee shops. It is only after the pandemic hit and we had to stay in isolation to avoid the virus that I started the habit of painting regularly and sharing my work abundantly on social media. And the journey continues...
